LIP FILLER

Lip filler treatment is the most common dermal filler inquiry we receive. This isn’t surprising when you consider the lips are one of the first things that people notice when they look at our face. At TK Aesthetics we believe less is more – that’s why we use delicate amounts of filler to build your perfect pout over a couple of sessions

WHAT IS THE AIM OF A LIP FILLER TREATMENT?

BUILD YOUR PERFECT POUT

A lip filler treatment can have a number of aims depending on your concern.

The aim may be to:

  • Enhance lip volume
  • Correct an asymmetry
  • Correct thinning lips
  • Add definition
  • Rebalance the top and bottom lip
  • Without exception, however, the aim of a Lip Filler treatment is to enhance the appearance of your natural lips.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do people seek a lip filler treatment?

The lips are a focal point of the face and as such, having balanced and well defined lips adds to our overall look. As we age, our lips thin due to volume loss that occurs naturally over time. This can lead to a loss of features of the lips you might once have had. Lifestyle choices can also have an adverse effect on our lips with smoking having a particularly negative effect not only on lip volume, but also the condition of the skin around the lips. For other patients genetics is the reason behind their thin or differently shaped lips.

What do balanced lips look like?

Balanced lips sit in direct proportion to themselves but also other facial features. It’s important to remember that your lips are 3-dimensional so a thorough assessment, taking into account what they look like from 3 perspectives is essential.

The first perspective is front on, the second is profile and the third is what’s called an oblique view which is a 45 degree angle. By assessing your lips from these 3 perspectives, we can design bespoke treatments for you.

How can I add definition to my lips?

Placement of dermal filler along the red-white border of a lip gives them definition and helps shape lips that might appear flat or undistinguished. The red-white border of the lip is known medically as the vermillion border. In the top lip, filler can add definition to the ‘cupid’s bow’ which enhances overall appearance of the lips. In the bottom lip border, adding definition helps add vitality to flat lips, bringing them out in the face.

How to avoid duck face and the trout pout

Failure to respect the Golden Ratio and take into consideration the projection profile of your lip treatment can have very negative effects on your result. It is as important your lips sit in the right proportion within the frame of your face as it is for the top and bottom lip to be in Golden Ratio proportion. Failure to recognise this is often how the ‘duck face’ and ‘trout pout’ look emerges.

At TK Aesthetics we will assess your lips holistically and have been trained to avoid common mistakes that lead to disproportionate results.

Are lip fillers safe?

A lip filler treatment never comes without risk. Even if the medical practitioner has performed thousands of similar procedures, the risk is still there that a blood vessel might be blocked, or that your lips may suffer a reaction to the foreign body being injected into them.

You can minimise your risk by being informed. Ensure your lip procedure is carried out by a trained medical professional. Ask questions – Ask about qualifications, insurance and products used. It is not a legal requirement in the UK for dermal fillers to be injected by medical practitioners however non-medical injectors will not be able to prescribe or administer Hyalase (a substance used to break down filler) in the event of an emergency so choose your injector wisely!

*Lips are one of the more sensitive areas we enhance with filler. Filler can cause sensitivity, swelling and sometimes bruising. It is important for clients to consider recovery time and any upcoming social events before they have a lip enhancement procedure. If you are prone to cold sores you may experience a breakout – this will be further discussed in your consultation
